Members promoted EDEN at national meetings in Spetember and October: NEAFCS, enABLED in Emergencies Conference, NACAA, and eXtension.
In September, Carolyn Wilken (FL) represented EDEN at the National Organization on Disability’s Emergency Preparedness Initiative Present: enABLED in Emergencies Conference on September 29-30, 2009 in Philadelphia. Carolyn received several presentations that were shared at the conference. For more information http://www.ncd.gov/newsroom/publications/index.htm .
Carolyn Washburn (UT) and Virginia Morgan staffed an EDEN booth at the National Extension Association of Family and Consumer Sciences September 14-19 in Birmingham, Alabama. EDEN-branded containers of sanitary handwipes proved to be one of the more popular takeaway items in the exhibit hall. Carolyn also presented a preview of the Family Preparedness curriculum. Joe Wysocki attended the meeting with the Healthy Homes exhibit.
Also in September, EDEN partnered with eXtension and the National Plant Diagnostic Network to talk with Extension agents/educators at the National Association of County Agriculture Agents (NACAA). Virginia Morgan helped out in the eXtension booth and Steve Cain worked in NPDN’s booth. Educators expressed a good deal of interest in EDEN and welcomed free copies of the EDEN Animal Agrosecurity and Emergency Management Course. One state veterinarian received the course CD on the first day and came back and requested copies for each of his area veterinarians in the state. Mark one up for EDEN.
A lot of good networking happened at the eXtension conference in St. Louis in October. Several members of the EDEN/eXtension groups attended. The presentation, Get There Early: Sensing the Future to Compete in the Present by Bob Johansen, Institute for the Future, was excellent and will serve EDEN as we think about future disaster communication.
